Aquatic Species At Risk – Blackfoot Confederacy

The Piikani Nation Lands Department in Coordination with Blackfoot Confederacy Tribal Council has reached out to Alberta Environment and Parks, and discussed potential collaborations for aquatic species at risk (westslope cutthroat trout, bull trout, mountain plains sucker) within the Eastern Slopes.

Project Locations: South Saskatchewan River Basin, (Bow River, Elbow River, Oldman River)  St. Mary River Basin, Milk River Basin.

Goals: The Blackfoot Confederacy would like to build capacity, create training modules that incorporate Blackfoot Traditional Knowledge into the establishment of an aquatic species at risk program within each nation and within Traditional Blackfoot Territory.
